Deeply instilled in our core values is fostering inclusivity and promoting the enjoyment of outdoor spaces for individuals of all ages and abilities, with an emphasis on recreation, well-being, and convenient transportation options. With increased trail use by various modes, potential conflicts on the trail can arise.
Our trail etiquette efforts center on educating users and encouraging positive behaviors to avoid those conflicts. We strive to nurture a culture of respect and kindness among trail users.
Our focus this year is on encouraging users to announce when they are passing other users of the trail. An “on your left” when cycling by, or passing another walker on foot can alert that person to your presence, avoiding surprise and potential accidents.
Additional Ways to Be Kind and Courteous include:
● Staying on designated paths; protecting plants, wildlife, and property.
● Stopping and using caution at road crossings.
● Keeping to the right so others can pass.
● Keeping pets leashed.
● Using trash bins for litter and pet waste.
● Not smoking on or near trails.
● Pro tip: Use lights and wear reflective gear in low light.
● Emergencies: Call 911.
